YT The rudest dagger in history and where to get one
Bollock daggers were a real medieval weapon. Daggers that had a handle shaped like a 'cock and balls' were quite the fashion item from around 1300 to 1550 across large parts of Europe.
Mostly quite stylised; some not so much.
What? Why? and most importantly where can I get a rude one these days.

Real Medieval Fire Arrows! (Sorry Hollywood)

Medieval fire arrows were real! So I followed the old books, made some and tested them in every way I could think of. 400 year old rapid loading crossbow - tested

I was told that this small lever action crossbow was a Border Reivers bow from around 1600 and used for raiding and civil defence. You forgot to add the tap at the fron that uses the index finger to hold the draw. Then, you don't need the muscles to hold the draw with the arm holding the string. You can even release the string hand because of that tap 😉. Joerg pointed out that that tap is important to make shootong a heavy longbow earlier.

Could you perhaps do a video on why the english rarely used quivers and used arrow bundles? I am interested in how they function, how broadheads dont get caught, how the loose string doesn’t let all the arrows fall to the ground. People often wrongly picture all longbowman with quivers.

In fairness, in the time of gunpowder, a lot of armour was phased out since it was made obsolete by bullets. As long as it can kill unarmoured targets, it would be okay. If they're wearing a curass, you better aim for the head or you're shit outa luck.

Great collaborative work, thanks to so many people who are interested in bringing history to life, with uncanny realism. Have you thought about next steps? Perhaps moving targets? Ive always wondered what might happen to the armour when its also accelerating towards these legendary arrows from legendary archers and guilds.

Is momentum only a good analogue for penetrative in soft target? Because in piercing steel and armor the best penetrative is very small, extremely hard pointy projectiles going very fast. Velocity is what matters in penetrating armor in firearm world.

You know, as you said right at the start, I sometimes get annoyed at the historical inaccuracies in movies. But with movies, I can - most of the time - look past it. Because I understand that when making a movie, you also have to make it entertaining and meet some expectations of the viewers. It irks me when the movie claims to be based in history and/or archaeology; 2004's King Arthur starring Clive Owen and Keira Knightley is a prime example (they said it was based on "new archaeological evidence", when in fact it was based around a historical thesis that has been discussed for decades, and then they messed up their dates and spoke of "papal armies" about a thousand years before any pope would have had his own military force, and had fantasy armor and leather bras). But, if the movie is made well, I can still enjoy it - again, King Arthur is a good example, because I like the story and I like that it's a different take on the myth and I think (despite all the inaccuracies) it's visually appealing for the most part. What really annoys me however is when I'm watching documentaries and they get it wrong. Because as I said, with movies you have the entertainment factor, and the question of vievers' expectations, and what the director and the producer envisioned. With a documentary, you're usually trying to show "what was", factually. When I watch a documentary about the celts plundering Rome, I don't want the celtic leader wearing a early medieval Spangenhelm. When I watch a documentary about the military reforms of Marius, I don't want the Romans wearing Corbridge-Style Segmentata armor. When I watch a documentary about Clovis and the rise of the Franks, I don't want Clovis to be having a 12th century sword. Because, in a documentary, I want them to get as close to the current scientific consensus about the time as possible. And yes, I know, they often have limited money, but it makes people watch these documentaries and believing that this is what was worn historically. The next thing they start working on a historic novel, or on their reenactement/living history gear, and they get it wrong and get criticized.

I think people forget where your carotid artery goes, those shoulder hits are on the subclavian artery which can't be compressed without opening up the chest cavity due to being protected by the clavical. Even today most people bleed out enroute to the hospital when this artery is severed.

21:13 You might be looking too closely at this one. It's entirely possible that because this was already an expensive weapon, the arsenic was just added as a good measure or for the aesthetics of the flame itself. It's kind of like how computer parts these days sometimes have black, blue, green, purple or even yellow circuit boards. The colours don't actually mean anything, but someone looking back on our era might get confused as to what the colours denoted. The colours of a circuit board are purely aesthetic, but the fact that there is a colour at all means there is a resin layer which insulates the copper. That doesn't mean the colour is vital to that function.

I feel like every year now there's just another reveal that one big "MYTH" that early HEMA RUclips did everything in their power to fight against turns out to be true in some fashion. Obviously Hollywood is still very silly in the way that it employs a lot of historically inauthentic tropes, but I feel like the attempt at a correction what's so over the top that they literally ignored a bunch of real things from history due to their ignorance. Like recently I found out that Spaniards actually did practice dual wielding arming swords at least as far back as the 1300s (According to Godinho who claims to have learned from a manuscript we do not have copies of) at least for court swordmaster roles.
